organic edelweiss extract aus den Alpen

(INCI  Leontopodium Alpinum Flower/Leaf Extract)

Sustainable, cultivated and fully organic

The origin of our edelweiss

High up in the Alps, between July and September, we revel in the radiance of the peerless peaks; under the midday sun and with a balmy warm breeze the icing on the cake. All around – as far as the eye can see – lies beautiful and awe-inspiring Alpine landscape.

And within it, a mesmerising sight of magnificence as the edelweiss flowers blossom. Our experts scrutinise the certified organically grown

plants and only green-light them for harvesting and further use when the edelweiss meets all the criteria required for our GermaCare products.

Symbolising the Alps and affection

A rarefied alpine flower that reigns – with tradition and origin almost no other plant can match. It symbolises eternal and perpetual beauty, with a shape and colour that remain unchanged for decades, even after picked.

Since home to the alpine edelweiss flower is generally at altitudes of 2,000 – 3,000 metres, it has had to withstand the harshest and severest of conditions such as wind, frost and strong sunlight for centuries – and all with water in very short supply.

The skin of a developing baby, which is 3-5 times thinner than that of an adult, has to undergo the same challenging conditions. Edelweiss plants exposed to these extraordinary conditions have had to develop highly effective protective mechanisms. We tap into them by cold-extracting and using the cultivated organic plants for our GermaCare baby care range.

The healing power of the Alps

How alpine edelweiss protects delicate baby skin

The active ingredients in edelweiss lend themselves perfectly to delicate and sensitive baby skin. They have an antiseptic effect, namely by reducing the number of infectious germs on the skin, paving the way for them to fight and ward off infection. Edelweiss also protects against so-called “free radicals” thanks to its antioxidant properties. Sources of these free radicals include, for example, harmful external influences such as environmental toxins, cigarette smoke or UV radiation.

Edelweiss was the first plant ever to be the subject of nature conservation, back as far as 1886. Our products use only cultivated and certified organic edelweiss extract from the Alps; protecting both your baby’s skin and conserving the population of wild flowers in nature.

Allantoin (INCI Allantoin)

Allantoin has long been a go-to product in the cosmetics world and ticks numerous boxes.

It is used for sensitive, dry and irritated skin. Its properties are tailor-made for delicate baby skin, underlining what makes this highly concentrated component such a key ingredient in our products.

Allantoin soothes the skin and, above all, nurtures it. It also supports so-called “epithelial formation”. Epithelia are multi-layered cell layers – the top layer of skin, for example, which acts as a protective barrier.

In other words, allantoin accelerates the build-up and formation of cells. It also helps to seal in the natural moisture of the skin.

It’s the ultimate go-to ingredient!

Working hand-in-hand with our organic edelweiss extract from the Alps, allantoin is the second ingredient of the GermaCare Complex and helps make the magic happen.

Allantoin is a substance occurring naturally in both plant and animal organisms. One of its jobs in plants is to stimulate growth.

GermaCare Complex

Our products only contain natural, non-polluted and tried-and-tested skin-friendly ingredients.

And that’s the cornerstone on which we developed the special GermaCare Complex range, using organic edelweiss extract and allantoin. Its special formula is all you need to keep your baby’s skin healthy and radiantly beautiful.

Once combined, both active ingredients provides all the care needed for developing and delicate baby skin.

Organic edelweiss extract from the Alps includes key anti-inflammatory, cell-shielding and pathogen-killing properties.

Allantoin outperforms all other active ingredients in moisturising the skin – and what’s more, it calms it too.

The GermaCare Complex exploits the naturally nourishing, protective and strengthening properties of numerous plant oils give your baby’s skin the very best care and protection it deserves!

Sunflower oil

(INCI Helianthus Annuus Seed Oil)

We obtain our sunflower oil from only the finest and ripest sunflower seeds, which are shelled, ground and cold-pressed.

The lecithin in the oil strengthens the acid mantle and prevents your baby’s skin from drying out.

Sunflower oil is rich in vitamin E, which has an anti-inflammatory effect. Combined with the key active ingredient in the GermaCare Baby Care range, Bio Edelweiss-Extrakt aus den Alpen, there is no better way to protect the skin from harmful environmental influences like UV rays and environmental toxins.

As a general rule, vegetable oils offer tangible end results. Their physical properties mean they form a protective film on the skin, which helps ward off irritation, seal in more moisture and keep it softer and more elastic.

The sunflower is the largest of the composites. Despite its size, it is an annual plant that can grow up to 3 m high. It is strong of stem, filled with inner pith and crowned with a large flower on top.

Argan trees are up to 200 years old and bear olive-like yellow fruit.

Argan oil

(INCI Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil)

“The most exclusive oil in the world” – because argan oil comes not from the fruit, but the kernel. Ultra-complex manual work is applied to grind the almond-shaped seeds, unroasted, then press them at low temperature (cold-pressing).

The oil this process delivers is rich in unsaturated fatty acids and vitamin E. It moisturises and soothes, making it ideal to care for dry and irritated skin.

Argan oil is also an ideal neurodermatitis supplement and can even be used to help prevent nappy rash.

Almond oil

(INCI Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis Oil)

We cold-press our almond oil from the ripe and shell-free seeds of the almond tree.

This oil is sweet, with soothing, calming and nurturing properties and acclaimed for its excellent penetration into the skin.

This most valuable and versatile of oils offers various effects that bring crucial benefits to developing and delicate baby skin. Almond oil is rich in unsaturated fatty acids, which protect the skin against free radicals and strengthen its barrier function and cells.

The vitamin A it contains accelerates wound healing, vitamin E provides valuable moisture and almond oil also contains vitamin B, which helps other vitamins to be absorbed.

And perhaps most important – vitamin D helps strengthen our immune system!

The almond tree grows 5-8 m high and blooms in early spring.

Simmondsia chinensis grows up to 3 m high and drives its roots up to 9 m into the desert soil.

Jojoba oil

(INCI Simmondsia Chinensis Seed Oil)

Jojoba oil is a liquid wax that is cold-pressed from the seeds of a desert plant (Simmondsia chinensis). It is unique in its composition in the plant world. Rich in vitamin E, provitamin A and minerals, it comprises fatty acids and fatty alcohols, which seal moisture into the skin and keep it soft.

It also offers antioxidant properties. Antioxidants protect us against so-called “free radicals”, such as harmful external influences like cigarette smoke, environmental toxins or UV radiation from the sun.

Jojoba oil is easily absorbed, with a skin-shielding formulation offering a visible barrier that helps soften the skin and seal in moisture.

Safflower oil

(INCI CARTHAMUS TINCTORIUS SEED OIL)

Also known as safflower oil and extracted from ripe safflower seeds (Carthamus Tinctorius).

What makes safflower oil stand out is the exceptionally high content of linoleic acid. Rich in diunsaturated fatty acids, safflower oil is light and does not clog the skin.

Why it’s best for baby’s delicate skin: safflower oil nourishes and protects it against loss of moisture!

Safflower, or thistle, is an undemanding, drought- and salt-tolerant, deep-rooted herb that grows up to 3 m high.
